tathāpi rākhite tāṅre bahu yatna kailuṅ
īśvarera svatantra icchā, rākhite nāriluṅ
tathāpi — still; rākhite — to keep; tāṅre — Him; bahu — various; yatna — endeavors; kailuṅ — I made; īśvarera — of the Supreme Personality of Godhead; svatantra — independent; icchā — desire; rākhite — to keep; nāriluṅ — I was unable.
“Still, I endeavored very hard to keep Him here, but because He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and completely independent, I was not successful.”
