cāhiyā nā pāila kukkura, loka saba āilā
duḥkhī hañā śivānanda upavāsa kailā

cāhiyā — looking; — not; pāila — found; kukkura — the dog; loka saba āilā — all the men returned; duḥkhī hañā — being unhappy; śivānanda — Śivānanda Sena; upavāsa — fast; kailā — observed.

When the men returned without success, Śivānanda Sena became very unhappy and fasted for the night.
